Neoephemera purpurea? This is a somewhat rare and unheard of mayfly to the flyfishing crowd. In 5 years of raising aquatic insects in my aquarium, I have only come across two of these specimens. There are only several species in the Neoephemera genus. In addition, Neoephemera is the only genus represented in the Neoephemeridae family. This nymph is currently in my bug aquarium (March 2008) and if it is successful in hatching into an adult I will eventually post pictures of it. Notice the unique and extremely large gill covers over the abdomen.
